Skiing in the Berkshires

Ski Butternut

It is one of the biggest peaks in the Mount Butternut area and offers more than 110 acres dedicated just for skiing. There is a snowmaking machine on the premises and 11 lifts, so there aren't long waits in line that you’ll find at some other resorts. There is a diverse spread of trails at different difficulty levels, as well, catering to skiers of all proficiency levels. Mount Butternut even has a great trail map to help skiers find which trails are best for their skill level.

Jiminy Peak

Jiminy Peak is another great option and actually offers more skiing acreage than Mount Butternut – nearly 168 acres! Jiminy Peak features 45 different trails and nine lifts, and with a peak height of 2,380 feet, there’s no question about the appeal of this mountain. Jiminy Peak is also open until 10 p.m., which is perfect for people who like to night ski.


The Catamount ski resort has been family owned since 1939 when the Gilbert and Edwards families teamed up to provide a wonderful ski experience for the locals. Today, nearly the entire mountain is able to be skied, with snowmaking capabilities present on almost every trail to ensure quality conditions all season long. Catamount has really made an effort to upgrade provide a great trail experience for those that frequent the mountain, and now offers a 2.5-mile trail that stands as one of the longest runs in The Berkshires. The facilities have also been recently updated, which offers a great experience for skiers in between runs. The atmosphere on Catamount is friendly and welcoming, and you won’t regret frequenting this ski area!
